The Sports Medicine Fellowship Program at Halifax Health is a one-year PGY4 position open to graduates of accredited Family Practice Residency Programs achieving American Board of Family Medicine Certification or similar training credentials in Internal Medicine or Emergency Medicine. The Program has been ACGME accredited since 1997. Graduates are eligible for American Board of Family Practice Certificate of Added Qualification in Sports Medicine.

The Program Director for the Sports Medicine Fellowship is John Shelton, M.D., Faculty FPRP. Dr. Shelton and other Sports Medicine Fellowship faculty; Richard Branoff, M.D., and Tom Terrell, M.D. are certified in Sports Medicine by the ABFP Sports Medicine CAQ. Dr. Terrell, M.D. joined our faculty in August 2008 bringing a wealth of knowledge and experience. He is an experienced researcher in concussion assessment and management.
Other local Sports Medicine CAQ faculty who teach part time in the program include Brent Fulton, MD; Raul Zimmerman, MD; Dan Monette, MD and Terry Livingston, MD.

Clinics in Sports Medicine are held four days weekly and are staffed by Halifax Health Sports Medicine Physicians providing extensive outpatient experience in problems related to physical activity. The Fellow is the team physician to three local collegiate athletic departments as well as providing support to several local high schools.
